Synthetic Methods and Applications of Carbon Nanodots

In the recent decade, carbon dots have drawn immense attention and prompted intense investigation. The latest form of nanocarbon, nanodot, is attracting intensive research efforts, similar to its earlier analogues, namely, fullerene, nanotube, graphene. One outstanding feature that distinguishes nanodots from other known forms materials water solubility owing extensive surface functionalization (the presence polar functional groups). These carbonaceous quantum dots, or nanodots, several advantages over traditional semiconductor-based dots. They possess photoluminescence, fluorescence, biocompatibility, biosensing bioimaging, photostability, feedstock sustainability, bio-conjugation, excellent colloidal stability, eco-friendly synthesis (from organic matter such as glucose, coffee, tea, grass biomass waste-derived sources), low toxicity, cost-effectiveness. Recent advances in characterization been received new insight provided. Presently applications fields drug delivery, sensing, diagnosis were highlighted future these astounding are speculated.
